What to expect
Total elevation gain: 280–350m of total elevation gain
Bukit Wawasan (Puchong Hill) is another KL’s wild rainforest which is well kept, alive with birdsong, misty mornings, and trails that weave through raw Malaysian rainforest.
The Journey Begins — Trailside Treats Café
We gather at Trailside Treats before sunrise, where the aroma of roasted beans sets the tone. From here, we head out together toward Puchong’s green frontier (a 10 min drive) followed by a short warm-up jog before the real adventure begins.
Checkpoint 1: Wawasan Entrance (Forest Gateway)
The trail opens with a gradual climb under a dense canopy — the kind of green tunnel where the temperature drops instantly and the world quiets down. Expect soft earth, scattered roots, and that familiar rainforest scent.
Checkpoint 2: The Bamboo Corridor
A few kilometres in, the path transitions into the famous bamboo-lined passageway — a natural archway that feels like running through a Zen painting. This is where the forest’s rhythm takes over: bamboo creaks, leaves rustle, and every footstep feels grounded.
Checkpoint 3: The Rock Garden Ascent
The elevation picks up as we tackle a moderate climb over rugged terrain locals call the “Rock Garden.” The incline is steady, never brutal, but enough to get the heart pumping. At the top, you’re rewarded with sweeping glimpses of the forest ridgeline and the occasional view toward Puchong’s skyline.
Checkpoint 4: The Ridge Run
This is the soul of Wawasan — a rolling ridgeline that flows with runnable singletrack. Sunlight filters through the tall trees, creating golden patches across the forest floor. Expect a mixture of fast flats, gentle drops, and punchy climbs that make this section both beautiful and fun.
Checkpoint 5: The Hidden Lake Viewpoint
A brief detour brings you to one of Wawasan’s most iconic surprises — a viewpoint overlooking the Puchong quarry lake, a turquoise-water basin carved into the hillside. It’s a quick stop, but an unforgettable one.
Checkpoint 6: Jungle Descent
The final major segment is a playful downhill that winds through ferns, mossy rocks, and shaded gullies. The ground is soft and forgiving, letting you flow comfortably back toward the trail exit. Keep an eye out for macaques, forest birds, and the occasional monitor lizard quietly observing from the sidelines.
Finish: Trailside Treats Café — Coffee & Breakfast
We exit the forest and make the final short jog back to Trailside Treats, where your reward awaits: fresh pastries, hearty breakfast options, and a cup of coffee that tastes even better after conquering nature’s playground.
